Step 1
Obtain a Medical Certification
Visit a MMCP-licensed medical cannabis practitioner (a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or optometrist) in Mississippi. They will determine if you have a qualifying medical condition.
Important Tips
Your first certification appointment must be in person.
Only practitioners licensed under MMCP are authorized to certify patients.
Please note that there is a cost associated with seeing a registered practitioner to certify the condition. MSDH does not refer to these registered practitioners or set the costs associated with these visits.
Qualifying Conditions
Individuals currently diagnosed with or undergoing treatment for the following medical conditions may qualify for medical cannabis use:
Alzheimer's Disease
Autism
Cancer
Crohn's Disease
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
Dementia
Glaucoma
Hepatitis
HIV/AIDS
Diabetes/Peripheral Neuropathy
Huntington's Disease
Muscular Dystrophy
Opioid-Resistant Pain
Parkinson's Disease
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Sickle-Cell Anemia
Spinal Cord Disease
Spinal Injury
Ulcerative Colitis (UC)
Spastic Quadriplegia (Cerebral Palsy (CP))
Additionally, chronic, terminal and debilitating diseases, illnesses or medical conditions and treatments that cause one or more of the following symptoms may also be eligible:
Cachexia or Wasting Syndrome (significant weight loss, muscle wasting and fatigue)
Chronic Pain
Nausea (severe or intractable)
Seizures
Severe and persistent Muscle Spasms - including but not limited to those characteristic of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Step 2
Practitioner Submits Certification
Once evaluated and deemed qualified, the practitioner will register your medical cannabis certification with the state’s MMCP.
Privacy: The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) does not publish the names of individuals enrolled in the Medical Cannabis Program (MMCP).
Step 3
Apply Online
Within 60 days of getting certified by a practitioner, you must register as a patient online through the MSDH Licensing Portal or the MS Medical Cannabis Program App to submit your application.

Step 4
Submit Documentation
During the online application, you will need to upload:
A digital passport-style photo.
Proof of Mississippi residency, such as a state-issued driver's license, ID card, or a utility bill.
Step 5
Pay Application Fee
Potential patients are required to pay a non-refundable state application fee of $25. The cost is reduced to $15 for Medicaid participants, disabled veterans, and first responders.
Step 6
Receive Your Card
Upon approval, you will receive an electronic identification card that can be used at licensed Mississippi dispensaries.
Important Tips
Approval Time: Once an application and supporting documents that meet regulatory standards are submitted, there is a 30-day review and approval period. After a patient’s application is approved, patient identification cards are issued within five days.
Please allow time for review and approval of patient applications and practitioner certification information. Applications are reviewed and determinations made in order of receipt of all required information.
